Photochromatic Lenses

Photochromatic lenses automatically adapt to changing light conditions. The light-intelligent technology responds to the light around you, changing from clear to dark when you go outdoors and back to clear when you return indoors.

CR Surfacing is introducing the latest photochromic technology on the market; a photochromic dipcoat, specifically developed for the harsh Australian conditions. In our sunburnt country, people are exposed to extremely high levels of UV radiation. CR’s ground-breaking Grouse Photochromic Coating provides 100% UVA and UVB protection, is applicable to any lens index, and is available in a graduated colour! This revolutionary technology overcomes the boundaries of photochromic lenses as we know it.

Grouse Photochromic Coating – an easy switch from clear to dark.

Transitions Signature Generation 8 is the latest innovation offering the best overall photochromic lens, offering a new frontier of performance returns to clear faster than ever and even darker outdoors. Transitions lenses provide the best protection for your eyes against UV light and harmful blue light while enhancing colour perception. Available in 3 iconic colours (grey, brown and graphite green), as well as the 4 vibrant Transitions® Style Colours (emerald, sapphire, amethyst and amber). Transition lenses work most effectively when paired with multicoat.

Transitions® Xtractive is the first lens with a light-activated tint that works behind a windscreen in a car.  When indoors they have a comfortable, slight tint to shield your eyes from strain caused by harsh indoor lighting. Transitions® Xtractive is ideal for active outdoor lifestyles and those who spend a lot of time on the road.

Transitions XtrActive Polarized™ marks a new era in eyewear, as these lenses both darken and polarise in bright, outdoor light. Combining the benefits of light intelligent lenses and dynamic polarisation Transitions® XTRActive Polarized lenses deliver sharper vision, more vivid colours and a larger field of view outdoors.

Polarised Lenses

Polarised lenses are specialised sunglass lenses that are designed to reduce glare bouncing off surfaces. Glare distorts the true colour of objects and makes them harder to distinguish. Polarised sunglasses can be useful for certain sports and driving, helping participants to see more clearly and avoid potential hazards. Polarised lenses contain a laminated filter that allows only vertically oriented light to pass through. This blocks the horizontally oriented light so that glare is effectively eliminated. Our polarised lenses are available in grey, brown and green. We also have graduated colour polarised lenses available in dark brown to light brown, dark grey to light grey, and dark brown to light grey options, exclusively in polycarbonate material.

NuPolar Infinite is the master of adaptability as it naturally responds to changes in light conditions. Combining photochromic and polarisation technology, NuPolar Infinite is a grey variable tint polarised sun lens that automatically reacts to changing light conditions allowing it to be either the lightest or darkest polarised lens depending on current light conditions. Maintaining 99% polarisation efficiency to block virtually all glare, its light handling properties respond quickly to provide the right amount of tint for enhanced contrast and vibrancy.

Transitions Drivewear sun lenses combine two of the most advanced technologies found in the eyeglass industry today: Transitions® photochromic technology and NuPolar® polarisation technology.

Typically, efficient polarisation only occurs when the lenses are very dark. Transitions Drivewear lenses utilize a high efficiency polariser that provides excellent polarising properties never found before in such a high contrast, light colour meaning that wearers can experience the visual benefits of polarisation even when the lenses are not extremely dark. This was achieved only by pushing polarised manufacturing technologies to new levels of exceptional performance and light transmittance. Transitions Drivewear lenses are polarised at all times and in all conditions. Transitions Drivewear lenses change from a shade of green/yellow, to a copper shade, to a dark reddish-brown colour depending on the amount of light.

In low light and overcast conditions Transitions Drivewear lenses are a green/yellow colour to provide high contrast and maximize useful light information reaching the eye.

One of the unique and special attributes of Transitions Drivewear lenses is that they darken behind the windscreen of a car because they have the ability to react to visible light as well as UV light.

Tinting

CR Surfacing Laboratories has the widest range of colours on our palette. The unique chemical structure of the tints we use makes them more stable and reduces tinting fade. The tint molecules bond to the lens and becomes part of the lens structure. The lens cures in the tinting process and finishes with a more scratch resistant surface. Beside the staple colours, our tinting department accurately matches any sample with a keen eye for detail to the required colour and density.

Tinting doesn’t provide the same benefit as polarised lenses. In order to make them as protective as possible, we can apply a UV400 coating on the tinted lenses, which absorbs harmful UV-A, B and C rays up to a wavelength of 400 nanometers.

For more protection, we can also apply Satin UV, Titanium AR Coating on both sides, or the back surface of the lens.

CR Surfacing Laboratories also offers a dozen medical filters for multiple traumatic injuries. For more information, please ask your local independent optometrist.

Repairs

CR Surfacing also offers basic repairs on frames. The nylon has snapped of a semi-rimless frame? Lost a screw from the temple or nose pads? The glasses just need a general “facelift”, shaping into alignment, tightening up screws, changing old nose pads? No problem, we strive to satisfy all your needs with excellence.
